I need a computer that I can store in a locker for work so I dont have to lug it around.

The dimensions are: W:23cm H: 40cm and D:26

Looking to put together the cheapest gaming build.

It only needs to house:

Harddrive
Motherboard with onboard audio
DVD drive
Graphics card, something like a 8800

Thanks

23x26 is almost a square base profile, youve got no chance finding an ATX board into a case that size!!
Micro ATX (or mini ITX) will have to be the way forward, and even so you mught have to stand the case on its end to get it in :D

Yeah thats not a problem standing it on its end. Its only for overmight storage.

Do you think a SB61G2 would do the job? Does that accept 775 boards?

Do you know what kind of Motherboard goes into that? And whether I would be able to get a 8800 into it as well?l

Mini itx is 17cm square. Don't remember offhand what matx is. I think you want the mini itx zotac 775 board :)

Sugo SG05 most likely option for the case, I'm trying to work things out for a mini itx build at present and sadly decent cases are still few. The zotac board looks lovely however

So you think the mini itx zotac 775 board would fit that case ok? And do you know if I could get a 8800 in it?

Case:
Height: 222mm
Width: 176mm
Depth: 276mm

So gives you some space left over in the locker.

The mini itx zotac fit in the mini it sg05 case? Yeah, I'm certain of it. I quote "SilverStone actually recommended the use of a mini-ITX motherboard we reviewed recently, the Zotac GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi for this review"

There's someone at xtreme systems running an overclocked quad core on one of the zotac boards, and quite a lot of people are fond of the sugo range. I don't think the 280 in your sig will fit sadly, what other components are you looking at?

I'm probably going to end up with one of the atom boards, but I'm not a gamer

Agreed, the Sugo looks like the case for you. As for the graphics, a 4850 or gts 250 seem to be the limit, but they give 8800gtx levels of performance, so all is good. Here is my spec:

It's not a big change to the above, but find a dual slot card. The case has two pci slots cut out, combined with the vents on the side mean a dual slot card will work excellently.

Under 500 quid for a tiny gaming computer is brilliant :)

So a atx board would fit after all, just about.

Making it is the ideal answer if you have the skills, time, equipment. Designing cases is a lot harder than I expected it to be, and is taking me a lot longer. Current thoughts are 6 or 8mm square steel bar fashioned into a box of appropriate size. 2mm by 2mm slots cut around each of the 6 openings, into which 2mm plexi/aluminium/steel fit to form the sides.
Main difficulties at present:
Cutting the slots at the corners
Mounting hardware, to the sides is easier to make but harder to use than mounting to the frame
Mechanically isolating hard drives without using lots of space
Having a very small box that you can still reach into to connect components

I'm basically struggling with the compromise of easily manufactured vs. having the case I want. I owe it an update, but am vaguely keeping track of design here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18007171

For example: Ideal case weighs little, => aluminium. Being able to weld components together => steel.
