Im looking for a case with 8 slots, reason being is that my brother just bought a new GTX 570 and has sent me his GTX 280 to SLI with mine, nice isnt he :)

I have the problem with my current case in that my sound card is PCI, meaning i cannot use the second PCIE slot, i will therfor have to use the bottom PCIE slot which due to the design of my motherboard tray wont fit the GFX card. Without tearing apart a good case and using it for something else, i have decided to buy a new case.

I have found it difficult to find a case with 8 slots that isnt £100+, which is over my budget.

TL;DR

I need a case with 8 expansion slots that doesnt break the bank, or a case that allows enough space for a graphics to be using beyond the 7th slot.

The Lancool K62 has 8 expansion slots. Is the graphics card is going to start in the seventh slot but needs two in total?

There won't be much room left underneath but I think the GTX280 has the fan at the end of the card and not in the middle so it should be able to intake air easily enough.

Yes, it will start at the 7th slot, i didn't see the K62 as the last slot hasn't got the clip system, but will definitely consider it.

The HAF 922 has 7+1 expansion slots, the +1 slot is a slot to the side of the other slots so can't have a board in it as such thats the place you would normally put the fan controller in that is connected to a wire rather than a board, the HAF 922 is an excellent chassis. I've done a review of the HAF 922 on this site somewhere, if i can find it then i'll post the link in an edit

OK, so i made a decision and bought a Lancool case, is coming Tuesday, will post pictures in the afternoon after i have built it. Thanks for the recommendation Spokwiththeears.

I take it you are aware the bottom slot on the UD5 is limited to 8x pcie which means your SLI lanes will be cut in half using that slot (8x + 8x instead of using the blue slots (16x + 16x)?

It won't make a great deal of difference but it will be slightly slower than 16x. I think you would be better keeping your case, running both gpu's in the blue slots. If you can't go without a separate sound card, buy a PCIe sound card with the money saved such one from the Asus Xonar range.

The difference in performance is going to be tiny, if any. I know people care about 3Dmark and such, but i dont, i just play games, so if i get 500 points less in 3D mark then so be it. I dont think GTX 280's made full use of the 1.1 bus, so the 2.0 bus even at 8x should be enough to lose no performance.

I did consider buying a new sound card, but the only one i would buy is the X fi fatality version, which is twice what i paid for the case. The over all graphics performance is going to be better, as it my cooling of the cards, which is a problem in an older case like the stacker 832. I did not want to through away a sound card when it has good performance and serves a big purpose, the case i have is no longer sufficient for my needs in cooling, or space.

Here it is, great case tbh.

The Antec 100 features 8 backing plates allowing for this and its at a very respectable price of only £43.99 HERE

:)

However I have just noticed you have gone Lancool :D

is it 8 cards that are on the motherboard or is there 1 thats attached to a wire?

check out the HAF 922, 7 slots for expansion cards that plug into the motherboard and it also has 1 slot away from the motherboard that uses a wire such as a fan speed control

here's the small review i wrote on the HAF 922 tho it doesn't previously mention the 7+1 expansion slots, it really is an awsome chassis though
