I've been hanging around this forum for about 1.5 years looking around and gaining info for my 1st build, i was going to build 1 year ago but didnt in the end, now i've got some money, got a spec together, and after 1.5 years I still cant find/decide on a case !

I like the following but cost too much:
Silverstone Tj09 £130 ish
Silverstone Fortress FT01 £130 ish
Lian Li PC-A71B £150 ish?
And a bunch of other Lian Li near £200

I remember when the Antec 300 used to cost £30 odd quid, now its £50, ridiculous....
Akasa AK-ZEN-01 is cheap, but tacky aswell, my bro has this.
I've sat here browsing through case central for an hour already :P

I need a;
cheap,
simple,
smart case...

£100 max really

the worlds finances have gone to pot

so buying imported goods [such as specialist computer cases made outside europe] costs more money

i would look at this...
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-151-LL&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=

a colleague at OcUK has recently had one and i have to say - its really nice

if leds and windows aint your thing

swap out the fan at the front and get the none windowed version [which i imagine would be cheaper]

Thats the case I was looking at getting, but like you, funds are a bit low!

I ended up going for a Lian Li PC-A07B in the end, cheapest Lian Li case on here. Still great quality, only thing I can fault it on really is cable management which isnt ideal (it looks great in the PC-7F which is why I wanted it!) but overall a nice case, plenty of room and enough drives to suit me :)

i love the lian li v series (1000/600) for the front hole design :)

got my 600 new for 70. got my 1000 second hand for like 50 i think. Same as a v350 too.

I too cannot afford a new case, but got lucky and picked up a second hand Antec P180 for £35 delivered - not my ideal case, but the extra £100 for a Fortress would take some finding...
Seems you are qualified to use the members market (Sadly, I am not yet, so had to look elsewhere) - is there nothing there ?

lian li a05b/n :D

i've got the a05b (the n model is a revised version) absolutely lovely little case. fits everything i need, nice and smart, and a very small full ATX (it's it's the same hight as my 22" monitor without stand!)

you can get lots of great cases for under £100 you just need to look harder!

Antec Mini P180 Black MATX Case £94.29
Coolermaster HAF 932 Full Tower Case £99.99
Antec 902 Nine Hundred Two Black ATX Case £99.99
etc...

and the antec 300 I say is still a great case for the price!

They all look rubbish mate. I seen them before

My hunt for a media case is suffering a similar fate. Trying to find a cheap, attractive micro ATX case is a joke. The annoying thing is there are some really nice mini ITX cases with PSU for around £60, but I can't find a Micro ATX case I like for under £100.

Am i right in saying the problem with the cheaper/smaller cases is that the cooling isnt so great.
Take the Fortress for example. it has great cooling, so it would be suited for my gxf card (Sapphire ATI Radeon HD4870 1GB), i have read that it pumps a lot of heat...
I might just get the fortress because of that :/

the a05b will get hotter than a lot of other high end cases, but it wont get excessively hot. a lot of people run some pretty high end stuff in these without issue, vented PCi slots and a LL bs-03 will help to cool further, or if youwant to go down the modding route then that's easy enough to do on this case.

On air, not necessarily. Some are built for looks, others for cooling, others for silence(/low noise levels) and still others for a compromise of those things. The more expensive you get, the more features you get.

Basically if you want air cooling, the Antec x00 series is a good bet. They're pretty much designed for cooling and little else. Quietness, the antec 180 and similar are probably a good bet.

Silverstone and Lian-Li tend to build more top-end cases with more emphasis on quietness and accessories/features; less on cooling (or at least, air cooling - often they're set up well for water)
