cases which use 2.5 hd?

to answer the question - its a yes but it would help to know what size motherboard etc as most of the cases with 2.5" drive bays are for smaller size motherboards.

lots of mini itx cases and smaller support 2.5" drives... but im guessing thats too small for your needs...

Fair enough, but also if you are using an adapter to 3.5 surely that'll make each one take up the same amount of space? ;)

I just stack them on the bottom of the case if I have too many for the drive mounts. :D

all of my drives in my computers are stuck to the bottom of the chassis with several layers of double sided tape (the foamy type stuff). Absolutely fantastic for noise damping, absolutely crap for heat dissapation. So if you did that, u wouldn't need to worry about fixings or mountings, also 2.5inch drives would never ever generate enough heat to make heat dissapation an issue at all, cos they are meant to run in laptops which generally have rubbish cooling / airflow.

Also i did try a computer one time with a 2.5inch laptop drive, forget it, they are really really slow compared to even run of the mill 3.5inch drives, very low power you see.. i still have it in use as its used in a render node so it doesn't do a lot other than rendering 3d images, hard drive performance isn't important once its booted up...

so 2.5inch drives great for low heat low power and situations where space is a premium but pretty rubbish for performance.

cheers

Rubbish mate. I have just put a new 2.5 WD Sata HD in my Desktop PC and it just goes really quick! Very pleased with the performance of it.

which one? i'd be interested cos i'm always looking at ways to reduce power and noise, and i thought 2.5inch drives would be a good place to go...

i used a 5400 seagate drive and it was pants compared to most 3.5inch drives, of course they were 7200 so i suppose comparisons on my part were a little unfair, i had assumed the 2.5inch drives would be slower generally as they are lower power units.
