Looking at the possibility of upgrading my Fortress ft02, while it has great airflow the motherboard configuration and stock heatsink of my 7990 does cause temperature issues on the gpu nearest the backplate, seems that the 2 front fans suck in all the air and all the rear fan gets is recycled warm air.

Was considering an Obsidian 750 d however after watching this video the airflow with the front panel on seems to be almost totally diminished compared to how it is with the front panel off.

A pity as it seems to tick all the boxes for size, cable management, then corsair in their wisdom somehow put a solid plate on the front of it instead of having meshed sections to keep the intakes unrestricted. :(

From personal experience the CM690 II (and I assume, I and III also) had great airflow. I added an extra 140mm fan into the drive bays, which made a total of 4 140mm fans and 1 120mm. There's also room at the bottom for another 2 120mm fans if desired.

Change your graphics card not the case you already have the best air cooling case or tilt the ft02 to see if a standard layout makes a difference.
I'd say the 7990 is going to get pretty toasty in any case regardless for the cost of a new case you could upgrade the gpu or even sidegrade to a 780 for not much outlay.
It's like xfire the top card always gets toasty unless you watercool it.

Saw the video was a little worried but thought its still a great case. Mine my ordered today and will be delivered tomorrow. Will probably run it without the front plate for the better cooling option.

If this case had a filter on the front instead of that cover it would be pretty much perfect, the 760T is a non starter for me as of how the side opens on hinges. Where I keep my case there would not be room enough to ever get inside it without completely disconnecting everything and moving the whole case.

This.
The FT02 is a ssuperb air cooling case.
Like c64 says, try standing the ft02 on its face and see if there is any effect on temps.

CM HAF X, its still one of the best air-cooled cases around (if its in stock)

I can vouch for that...I have one :D But my god its a big case, you've got 1x 230mm fan on the front, 1x 200mm on the side panel blowing air directly on your gpu, 1x 140mm on the back, and x2 200mm on the top of the case (Comes with 1 fan though)

But i'd be tempted to go with a 540, which I will be doing soon once my room has been rearranged how I want it.

I think personally the 540 will be a lot better than the Haf X, since there's no hard drives, PSUs, Cables etc in the way blocking the air's path, It blows straight through your GPU/CPU.

And if done right, with that massive window on the side, you can make it very asthetically pleasing.
