Hi just wondered have there been any cases made with no space for a psu and have there been any psu's made for fitting outside the case, just wondered as it would make a clean looking sysytem

but a messy desk... and most decent cases have a PSU Shroud and plenty of space to tidy and hide cables..

A manufacturer of both cases and PSUs could implement a new format, call it ATX 2.0 or something, and begin selling those cases and PSUs alongside the normal ATX format cases and PSUs. Could take off.

For example, a PSU that sits width-wise instead of depth-wise, i.e. with the connectors pointing towards the motherboard tray instead of to the front of the case, retaining the exhaust vents and power lead connector in the regular place facing the rear. For cooling, maybe 2 x 80mm fans on the opposite side facing the front of the case helping cool any drives there at the same time.

This would provide more room inside the bottom of the case for more drives or rad-space or fans pointing up at GPU, and maybe avoid the need to have the floor of the case raised up, helping bring height down a little as well.

Phanteks, Corsair, NZXT, Cooler Master, are just some of the ones who could do it (or something different) if they wanted.

I spend a fair bit of time tinkering in Sketchup with case design, as a hobby. It's almost like playing chess with yourself - every move leads to a dozen other considerations.
