Hi,

Tesco are currently running a deal where you get a sticker for every £20 you spend in store or online. When you collect 10 you get 60% off their Cast iron or Pyroflam range of casserole dishes.

This means the 3l Pyroflam comes to £11.99 and the 2L comes to £8.99, which is cheaper than anywhere I can find online.

Just wondering if it's worth getting the cast iron casserole dish instead as that comes to £29.99, down from £79.99 .

What benefits does cast iron offer over glass?

It is always good to have some cast iron pans and dishes around for heavy oven duty etc. They are very heavy for every day cooking.

Got a cast iron casserole pot brilliant, start making the casserole on the hob, then throw it the oven to slow cook until ready.:)

Apparently you can heat these Pyroflam casserole dishes on the hob. I'm tempted to grab the smaller 2L Pyroflam for now and maybe grab the cast iron when I get another 10 stickers.

The cast iron one is the one I plan to get when I get one more sticker. Just a shame it is red and not black.

Well, they're usually £80 so can't see them being crap. Going to get one as it seems like too good a deal to pass up on. One good bonus i can think of with the cast iron is that they shouldn't be as easy to break, so worth the price for that.

Yeah they are certainly durable and enabled cast iron cookware is usually really easy to clean as well.
On the flip side they are really heavy, I have a set of Le Crusset saucepans and my wife rarely uses them due to their weight (it doesn't bother me). I guess you expect this more with casserole dishes though.

My brother just got back from tesco with the Cast iron 3.6L casserole dish and the woman on the till gave him 26 Pyrex stickers . Got enough to buy the smaller glass Pyroflam dish and vegetable steamer and maybe a few of the plain dishes.

Really pleased with it, looks great and feels very good quality. Will be putting it to use tomorrow with a steak and ale stew.

I've got the £30 red one that you need 20 stickers for.

It's OK... nothing amazing. Very heavy and pretty non stick. It didn't need seasoned and is easy to clean.

The lid keeps the steam in and doesn't let any escape.

It conducts heat very well as you would expect and keeps food warm for a while after cooking if let to sit.

Overall for 30 quid it's great. Would I pay 80 quid for it... Nah.

Yeah there is no way I'd pay £80. It seems great for £30 and we only needed 10 stickers for the discount.

Currently cooking a steak and ale stew in it. Started on the hob and then transferred to the oven so saves on washing a pan. I always end up with the floured meat sticking to the bottom of the pan, but it didn't stick at all to this. Hopefully it stays like that for years to come, although if not then the lifetime warranty should come in handy.
