As title really - I want to “cast”/screen mirror from my desktop in the study to my TV in the living room.

The TV is an 7-8 year old Samsung sort-of-smart TV. I have a spare HDMI and USB slot available for whichever device suits.

With the demise of Eurosport this year, I’m paying up for the World Endurance Car app and wanting to stream live - with good smooth HDMI video quality and properly synced audio - from the desktop where I’ll have the stream running in-browser to the living room where I can sit on the comfy sofa to watch it.

I’m not in the slightest bit up to date with this area of tech - I’m vaguely aware of some devices, chromecast etc but wary of some of the reports I’ve seen of laggy audio, stutters pictures etc. Don’t want to spend a fortune, and am envisaging some sort of USB dongle in the PC which will pair with a HDMI receiver in the back of the telly to screen mirror… does such a thing exist?!

Assuming the TV is running Tizen, you can try using Steam Link. Haven't tried this in a while since I use Moonlight instead (don't think that's available for Tizen), but you basically start Steam Link up, connect it to the PC, then once you see Steam's big picture mode, one of the buttons on the top will allow you to minimise big picture mode, and you'll see the desktop. From there you can load up the browser and stream whatever you want.

Can you cast the phone to the tv? I have a 7 year old samsung tv and I can cast my desktop through windows directly.

I used to screen mirror to a chromecast and it was ok.

If you can i think the suggestion above will be the most reliable and good quality - fibre optic hdmi cable
