Castrated Cpu z info

It was only time before failed dual-core CPUs ended up being sold as a single core CPU.

Interesting, I must admit I've been thinking this is the case over the last few days, sometimes in some software my 3700 reports as being 2 cpus, and it got me wondering if it was a crippled dual core.

I've found the problem, cpu z doesnt apparently support that revision of the chip, as its supposedly a dual core cpu with one core disabled.

That shows JH9-E6 revision - something which I have only seen in Opteron DC chips. All the Toledo X2 chips I have seen are JH-E6. Weird.

We might find that retail boxes start shipping with these chips. Doesn't this make sense from AMD's point of view? Why make (and therefore pay for) several chips when you can make one and just alter it with similar results. They did this before if I remember rightly - didn't the 1800, 2000, 2200 and 2400XP socket A all have the same core?

It does open an interesting question though. CAN the other core be unlocked? If it's a failed dual core then obviously not (and you probably wouldn't want to), but if AMD are saving costs then shouldn't this be possible?

For some reason my bios lets me select higher than 11. Don't know if it defaults back however - will check when I get home on Monday. Are Toledos restricted like the SDs are?

X2s/A64s/Opeterons are locked up the way, only FXs and the occasional freak A64/Opteron/X2s are fully unlocked.

I accidently unlocked a locked chip a few months ago, but when I reset the BIOS lost it again.

there have been a few reports of unlocked chips here and there. It seems that if you apply an electrical charge, to an unknown pin, at the right time (the 3rd full moon no doubt) then they become unlocked!

However an unlocked CPU is only really useful for phase users, or those who don't own a board that can clock the HTT well.
