Cat cable Termination Problem

Got a few friends houses to network including cctv installation and I started one of the houses using blackbox kit.

I am having trouble terminating the RJ45 plugs onto the cat6 cable for cctv. There is always a core or two that doesn't crimp correctly when I test them.

I don't know if its the crimp tool as I didn't seem to have as big of a problem before with a previous installation but I did use different branded cable/plugs etc. Is there a chance this blackbox stuff is more suitable for their own blackbox crimper?

I've recrimped the plug a few times to see if it helps and some times it helps.

My crimper was a cheapo at £15 so maybe I might be better off investing in a decent crimper? Any suggestions?

My £15 maplins crimper is a load of carp. It doesn't press evenly and the crimp teeth might as well be made of tin. I rarely make cables so it's not worth expense but I definitely wouldn't use sub £30 crimps for regular use...

I think this is my problem. Had a look at my crimper and the teeth on it look cheap and when I went to crimp, not all the pins seem to crimp evenly like the others.

I'll have to purchase another tool and that will determine if the crimper is to blame.

The time I've wasted never mind the hassle.

How good is the crimper in the link guys? It only a quid or two more than my cheapo and I've seen a couple by the same brand at £40+

Very true but my mate got cat6 plugs for solid core so blackboxes plugs are stated to go with their cable and it saves buying cat5e.

Just to let you know, I got the crimping tool mention above and I have to agree, its a fantastic piece of kit.

First cable crimped 100%. Any cables that didn't work correctly with the old crimper, I put the new crimping tool on them and again, it re-crimped the cable 100%.

I had one cable that the tester stated was ok but the switch reported it was only connecting at 10mb. Put the crimper on the cable and now its reporting a gigabit connection.

Excellent recommendation guys and money very well spent.

Cheers
