Cat litter questions!

Why not flush the solids? I can't see any reason not to.

Surely it must be better than sending all those plastic bags to landfill.

We use recycled paper pellet litter, and the weed on stuff goes into our compost bin, where it is currently stubbornly refusing to rot down :p But it will, it will...

You need special high-temperature composting systems to deal with human/cat waste tho. You couldn't put it in your regular compost bins. Well, so I read :p

My girlfriend uses an empty cat litter bag to put it in as they are usually made from a paper type substance. Myself, you'll probably all say I'm gross for this but, I just open the green wheelie bin lid and pour it on in! No bag so nothing that'll take years to degrade at the local tip :D

Green or grey bin dependent on the bag you use.
Scoop out the bad and change when the cat does a big wee (and change reasonably regularly anyway)

No need to change regularly with decent stuff, a topup should do

When we had cats we scooped the poop and the clumps of urine every day, put them into bags and put them in the normal rubbish bin.

Give the tray a clean and a topup every now and again

Poo can be flushed down the loo (even though some say you shouldn't)

Wee you can scoop out that bit and chuck it in the rubbish bin.

Get some dog poo bags to put it in, and put it in the outside bin or it will whiff.

The more expensive litters help with the smell as well. I use catsan.

We used to use Catsan but it really is terrible, we were using so much of it and we only have 2 cats

We use the Sainsburys value baby nappy bags, as they are the right size, have an element of anti-odour and tie up easy for disposal :)

Aye cheapy nappy bags here too

My dog eats it. :/

Bleurgh lmao

We use:

We wen't thru a fair few different brands before settling on this, the 40L bags last an absolute age. Yes its more expensive but you dont waste nearly as much as other stuff, and even the litter itself can be flushed down the toilet.

It prevent odours very well whilst not being perfumed, it doesn't seem to track anywhere near as much as the Catsan mentioned above and it clumps very well. We have a huge litter tray under the stairs, gets filled about 3-4" deep. Scooped out every day and topped up whenever needed.

My cats go outside 99% of the time now. I have the catsan because of the lack of smell it means I have in my house.

I have no sense of smell myself, so am ultra paranoid about my house smelling. Whenever people come round, I ask them if they can smell anything bad, and they can't. It was the same when they were kittens and going in the house, hence why I've just stuck to it :)

We use this for our 2 cats too, only do a full clear out every 10 days or so. Wee clumps together in to balls of litter, poos don't smell like the other stuff.

It still tracks but we have one of those electric sweepers nearby for day to day clearing and we hoover once or twice a week for everything else.

Poos and clumps go down the loo and a full bag of litter goes in general waste.

I tried some pets at home 'good stuff' and it was awful. Cats wee'd on it and it was like cement trying to get it off the tray.

We tried the stuff from zooplus. It's really good, unless you have a fluffy cat. It ends up everywhere. :(
Only keeping a tray at the moment because of the weather.

I used to buy catsan at £9 for 20 litres. I never scooped poo out I just changed the whole tray every 3 days (2 cats) I must have wasted hundreds. I now just buy a cheap happy shopper 12 litres for £1.50 and do the same thing but at least it's far cheaper. I'm not one for have g to scoop up poo on a daily basis

Mine used to get the litter everywhere but once trained to go outside she now only wees on occasion in the box. Had to buy a new hoover though as old faithful was not up to cat litter and cat hair. And mine sheds a fair bit of hair.

I was late and grabbed a black coat and ran for the bus. Made it, sat down, looked down and to my embarrassment my coat was covered in fur. Still added a bit of warmth i suppose.

We use litter bins for the waste with a vacuum cleaner air freshener stuck inside it, then the waste goes on the muck-heap with all the horse ****. Mind you with nine cats it's abit of an undertaking cleaning all the trays we have. :( I like the litter that clumps into balls, as I find it a lot less messy than the none clumping type. ;)

The cat litter I use for my cats is Oko cat litter as it's biodegradable, organic and can therefore be flushed down the toilet. Wouldn't use anything else now.
