I'm refurbishing a few rooms in the house and bought some CAT5 faceplates. But unlike my other faceplates which had the actual colours labelled on the push-down block, these new ones just have numbers  Does anyone know which numbers correspond to which colour wire?

Cheers

B's pretty much standard though. You'd only usually wire one end 'A' if you were trying to crossover.

Wouldn't be so sure on that- was expecting most of it to be 'B' at work today but found out some of it was 'A' and some of the sockets were just patched into and hole avaliable :D That's what you get when you let electricians put in data networking.

I was always led to believe that the 568A standard was brought in after the 'B' standard?

:p We had an electrician run some cable for us at home yesterday. He made a damn good job of the cable run, and very nicely just left the cable untouched at either end for me to do.

Wiki disagrees, but I suppose it's not forced to be correct:

Oh thanks, never knew that :) Then again, thinking about it, it would be a bit daft to bring out B then A afterwards :o Oops. All my cabling is done to 568B anyway though because I always got the order wrong on A and could only remember 568B :o
They're exactly the same anyway. The only difference is the colours are different - green is swapped with orange. Electrically, there's no difference at all.

Yeah, problem is that I normally swap the wrong pairs though- I think it's supposed to be #2 and #3
