Hi.

I am buying a 100 meter CAT5e Solid Core Outdoor Ethernet reel.

What type of RJ45 connectors would I need to use a crimping tool, so I can then use the cable for a 30 Meter and 70 Meter etc..?

******s sell RJ45 connectors, but they say its not for solid. I cant find any specific or would they all do?

Sorry OC, don't get so butt hurt.

Search the same site you linked (but probably shouldn’t have, see forum rules) for ‘Cat6 RJ45 LAN’ and you’ll find two options for plugs rated for stranded and solid core cables. They’re obviously Cat6 rather than Cat5 but that shouldn’t be an issue.

The better option would be wall mounted faceplates at each of the cable, but that’s a different issue.

A standard 8P8C should do the trick. It's quite tricky to terminate these connectors without a tool but it can be done. I'm not sure why they say they can't be used with solid cores as I've used them many times. You can get the connectors very cheaply if you know where to look and as for tools they can be cheap enough too.

Presumably you mean 8P8C? If you’re going to be a pedant at least do it right. :D

Standard RJ45 plugs (or 8P8C if you prefer) work by having a blade that goes straight through each conductor. This works fine with stranded cable, but not with solid core cable. Plugs for solid core cable have more of a claw that cuts through the insulation on both sides of the conductor. I’m not sure what the plugs that claim to suitable for both types of cable have.

It is possible to use stranded plugs on solid cable (and I often have for temporary jobs), but they aren’t going to be working as intended. They’re a bad connection just waiting to happen.
