CAT6A Sockets - No 'G' on testing

Hi,

Quite new to network cabling but I bought a bunch of tools as suggested here and now have CAT6A throughout most of the house.

I'm terminating these cables to sockets and this seems fine - 1 to 8 showing up (at last) but I noticed the G isn't flashing. Is there any way to ground the cables in a socket/socket setup?

When using the same cable and terminating to plugs, the G does show.

Thanks all

The simple answer is that you’ve not bought Cat6A outlets so there’s nothing for the shield (G) to connect to

Ok, that makes sense - thanks.

So a few more questions:

- Does not having shielded sockets invalidate the whole shielded setup?
- Can I replace the module inside the socket with a shielded version?
- How would I connect the shield to the socket?
- Why is it a 'G' not an 'S'? :)

- Pretty much
- Yes
- The socket will be supplied with instructions that cover how to connect the shielding and drain wire
- The cable tester probably calls it a Ground
