Hi Guys and Gals

I wonder of you'd be so kind to offer some advice..

Just built my very first PC today and I've ran into a few problems. Spec:

Q6600
4850 X2
4GB DDR3 Dual
Gigabyte GA-EP45T-UD3P
24" Iiyama E2407

I'm no techie so I was pretty delighted when it booted up at 2nd time of asking (think I seated the CPU cooler incorrectly first time round.) But my joy has been short lived tonight after installing XP (SP2)

After the fresh install, I dl'd all the mobo drivers from the Giga website and installed them. Under Device Manager, there were no conflicts (apart from) all I had to add was add the video drivers. So I dl'd Catalyst 9.4 from the ATI website and ran them.

I got an error message saying that I couldn't run the display drivers because I never had NET Framework 2.0 installed. Fine, I thought, I've got them somewhere anyway, so I'll bang it in after next bootup.

It continued to load the catalyst control centre and then asked to reboot. Fine. But when I did so, it got to the Windows "loading" screen, then the monitor switched off.

After a bit of humming and hawing (we do that in Scotland a lot) I remembered that the resolution had probably been changed and it wasn't native to the 24", so I plugged in my plasma as the "other" screen (not sure if it's the first or second one) and bingo, it came up on that screen.

The writing looked pretty unreadable so I thought "if in doubt, 800 x 600 it."I did this and the screen went basically like Marilyn Manson had puked on it. Zany colurs, hug overscan so I couldn't reach the task bar etc)

So I rebooted. And, after the windows loading screen, got a pure blank screen. And again. And again.

I have tried to go into safe mode using F8, but, although it goes to the dos menu to select which type of safe mode, my arrow keys wont work to select them (the arrow keys however work fine in the BIOS config for example.)

I have been in the BIOS setting but was really to scared to change anything

I have tried to do a fresh install and changed the boot drive to be the dvd but again, when the prompt comes up "press any key to boot from CD" no keys seem to physically work.

This is so annoying, the drivers were like the very last thing that needed to be put on, and to have come so far and fallen at one of the last hurdles...

Apologies if this has been posted before, I tried to do a search, but most peoples advice (on other forums) seems to be to go to safe mode or enter a huge script of sorts...

Sorry about the long winded post as well, I thought it best to be specific as possible:rolleyes:

Any guidance gratefully accepted:)

Yeah Id recomend a fresh install, if your keyboard wont work try plugging it into a different USB port, hopefully this should then allow it to boot from CD, alternatively if it isnt powering up your keyboard in time then you can try getting into the RAID manager (Ctrl +I) just after POST screen and delete the partition (if youre running 2 HDD's), this should wipe all data.
Once you reinstall run all windows updates first, that should install the .NET framework, then run CCC last

Thanks.

I'm running 1 HDD though, but I'll try the other USB.

Would it be feasible to take out the 4850 and boot, hoping to force it to use onboard graphics and somehow overcoming the resolution conflict?

using the other usb, has allowed me to boot from cd, formatting just now.

I make sure I do all windows updates before installing the video drivers this time.

Cheers
