Cataloging External Drives

Is there any free software that will automatically make a note of the contents of any external storage device (USB flash drives, HDDs, etc.) that connects to your Mac?

works well for mac.. whereisit for pc ,, but i know whereisit isnt free ..but i use them and like both

dir /b /s \ > dir.txt

I just do that on the drive and keep the "dir.txt"
