Catalyst 8.12 glitch

Hi folks,

After installing 8.12, there are quite frequent screen flickering haapens to my new rig, mostly when I am doing desktop operation. When there are no activities, no flickering, which is very weird.

Anyone has had the same experience?

My current 4870 1GB Powercolor is a new card bought a few weeks ago, I am sure that the hardware is alright because I installed the "out-of-the-box" Catalyst suite which was 5.X I dont recall exactly and this issue never occured.

When I bought my previous card which was a Sapphire 3850 512MB card, it comes with a Catalyst Driver 8.8. I have installed it and so far no flickering. But I have questions here: how much I am losing from games like GTA IV, BF2142, Fallout 3, Call of Duty W@W in terms of image quality and performance?

I have read that 8:12 can suffer flickering, but i thought in games only? I have gone from 8:12 to the 8:10 drivers which are much better.

I have not tried 8:8 but with the 8:10 in games like COD 5 the fps is slightly lower but the overall feel of the game is smoother and sharper looking "why would that be"

Raedon drivers really drive people crazy, I mean they all dependent on games, this is somehow annoying I say.

Thanks for letting me know, and by the way, where I might find older drivers with reliability? They are not available from AMD website aparently.
