On March 18 according to the "CatalystMaker" Terry Makedon. The previous release was two months ago on Jan 9th which was tagged 'preview' driver for Windows 7 where as the one in Catalyst 9.3 is tagged as 'real' driver. The tag alone conveys the Catalyst team's message that this driver is vastly improved over the current release.

Sounds interesting. :)

looking forward to seeing if Cat 9.3 gives a boost to win 7 - I'm already impressed with the preview drivers

Any indications when the drivers will be available?
I'm gonna guess another late in the month release, if they do as much as they say they will.

i cant istall the 9.2s when it comes to catalyst control it says invalid file location when trying to install it!

Thats handy.

Previous drivers, forget what version, i was getting a lot of gpu driver? something crashing and recovering about 5 times in a row then i would get a blue screen. Fixed with a driver update but wow often errors a lot. Hope this fixes that.

I may even install win7, have been reluctant to move from xp pro but am fancying some bells and whistles. Whats the overlap from beta to release looking like, i have the 2 keys probably everyone has.

Catalyst 9.3 Unifies Vista, Win7 Driver Release

Graphics driver updates are frequent enough that we don't typically consider them "newsworthy" here at ExtremeTech. ATI (the graphics arm of AMD) offers new WHQL certified drivers monthly, and Nvidia may not have a set schedule but public beta releases and new WHQL drivers are quite frequent.

Catalyst 9.3, due for release today (March 18), is something of a landmark for ATI. We told you two weeks ago about ATI reducing support for older products. Catalyst 9.3 is the last driver where products based on the R600 generation (Radeon X1x00) and earlier will be part of the monthly driver updates. After this, it's quarterly updates for those legacy products.

More important is the fact that ATI is offering a single unified driver package for both Windows Vista and Windows 7, currently in beta. Whether you have Vista or Win7, you'll download the same driver package. It will detect which OS you are running and install the WDDM 1.0 drivers if you're running Windows Vista, or the WDDM 1.1 drivers if you're running Win7.

The Vista drivers will still be WHQL certified every month. Microsoft doesn't have the WHQL certification in place yet for Win7 graphics drivers, but once they do, the monthly driver update from ATI will be WHQL certified for both operating systems.

What's more, ATI claims that their new Catalyst 9.3 graphics drivers are finally realizing the promise of Windows 7 to be more efficient than Windows Vista. Game performance, ATI says, is actually faster in Windows 7 than in Vista, as of Catalyst 9.3. You can read more about that in our examination of Vista vs. Win7 graphics performance.

This is very good news. Windows 7 is still probably six months away from release (give or take). Adding Windows 7 support the ATI's monthly driver release will help ensure they are vigorously tested and in great shape by Win7's release. Of course, Nvidia is working very hard to avoid the problems seen on release of Vista with their graphics drivers, and from what we've seen, their Win7 drivers are already in very good shape.

A battle is brewing over which graphics company will have the best Windows 7 drivers upon release of Microsoft's hotly anticipated OS; a battle that is nothing but good for users of both companies' products.

Note that DirectX 11 is not yet finalized, so of course no driver from Nvidia nor ATI yet has DX11 support. DX11 is expected to be released for both Windows Vista and Windows 7 around the time of Windows 7's release.

HI Guys,

went from Catalyst 9.1 to these and it has completely busted ETW for me - constant flashing screen and weird thing where the city names remain static when i scroll across the map.

what are ATI playing at? seems that they are not too good at making drivers...
