**This is a bit of a rant that I need to get off my chest**
Okay, so I've just been using Intel's HD drivers for a while with my Lenovo G570 and got round to installing the dedicated GPU driver for the Radeon chip inside. I installed the latest driver using the AMD Driver Autodetect software and on restart, the Windows login screen freezes. I thought, perhaps it's just glitching first boot in. Three restarts later, still the same crap!
Each time, I can eventually get into Windows 7 but there's no way I'm going to tolerate that everytime I boot. I then realise I can't set Chrome or VLC player to use anything other than power saving using the dedicated GPU. The applications are simply greyed out and locked. I did some research and it turns out other people have this problem.
So basically, what the hell AMD, last AMD (well, ATi) card I bought was the 9700 and since then it's been plain sailing with Nvidia for my desktop.
I go back to AMD and this crap. Somethings never change.
I've since reverted back to just the Intel HD graphics but I still had to use the AMD Uninstall utility to fully get rid of the login lag. Dear, me.
I've read horror stories of driver problems which have swayed me green but now having fully felt the brunt of it.
My next laptop will definitely be with Nvidia.
