AMD has supplied us with a document giving information on the improvements that will be implemented over the course of the next months in Catalyst drivers:

- CrossFire X profiles per application will now be in a separate XML file that it will be possible to update independently of the driver itself
- ATI CrossFire X with PowerPlay for the Radeon 5x00s: reduced energy consumption of additional cards
-AMD Dual Graphics: Possibility of combining performances of the IGP of the RS880 with the forthcoming entry level GPUs from the Cedar and Park ranges.
- 3D Stereoscopics: Update of the D3D driver so as to allow third party firms such as IZ3D to use their 3D solution with 120 Hz screens. Support for Bit Cauldron glasses.
- Eyefinity: Bezel Management
- Better GPU acceleration in Windows 7 Video Converter
- Support for DisplayPort Audio (already in the 9.12 hotfix)
- If laptop manufacturers allow it, possibility of installing the Catalysts on a laptop in Vista and 7
- Improvement of 2D performance in Linux
- Support for Ubuntu 9.10 and OpenSUSE 11.2

I'm simply being facetious.

Facetious is basically sarcastic, I don't get how your comments are sarcastic in the slightest.

I don't think anyone cares that nVidia has "had it for years" the more important thing is that "Finally ATi aren't dragging their feet and getting on with supporting things they should have supported a long time ago".

To be honest, it's got nothing to do with nVidia.

Nvidia have "had" it, so what? They SHOULD have had those features, there's no excuse not to really.

Yo,

Sorry, but what exactly is "bezel management"? Will it get rid of the bezels on my multi display set up :p

Also, re. the Powerplay for Crossfire. Is it along the lines of putting the second card/GPU in a Crossfire setup in "standby" when not needed (i.e. in 2D mode)?

Cheers,

Su

Oh gosh the fangirls are out in force today.

Although there is one thing:

- Improvement of 2D performance in Linux

nVidia has done it for years

To be fair, I think ATi might have released a couple of 2D performance updates in the past, too. :p

Bezel management is basically adjusting the placement of "screens" to make things line up correctly when spanning multiple curves.

Without bezel management, if you had a curve spanning all 3 screens, at the end of each screen, the curve would carry on as if the screens had no bezels, which makes the image look odd.

Bezel management basically renders the stuff that SHOULD be behind the bezel to make everything line up properly.

See in this image the way the images between screens don't line up with the screens next to them? Bezel management fixes this and ensures they line up.

Please tell me they got 3D setting application profiles that activate automatically, i.e. what ATI Tray Tools does and what (to be fair) nvidia have had for years.

Believe it when I see it, but halle-*******-lujah if it happens. ATi's performance in this regard has been utterly woeful for too long now.

The profile support is a move in the right direction and long overdue, though i do think it should be an option in ccc to apply whatever rendering method you want, instead of pratting about with files.

So what If Nvidia already have that stuff?

I couldn't give a **** , New stuff for ATi users is a good thing surely..

This.

Putting aside the ATI vs nVidia crap, a company supporting their drivers can only be a good thing. Sure, they could have had this earlier, but it's better than not adding it at all.

Shame there's no mention of HD channel fixes.

I wish you lot would stop bitching about NV vs ATI. It's pretty sad.

I don't think you will see a fix for that on ATI for a long time tbh. Its one of those things that tends not to be a priority to fix.

Then why make a graphics card that bitstreams HD audio tracks and has specific clock profiles for DXVA (ie aimed solely at HTPC/living room set ups), but doesn't work properly with HD TV channels? A bit odd really, and I doubt it'll take major work to fix.

Im gonna have to agree on this, if Rroff didnt compare someone else would, and there are far worse trolls on here from both sides. I like OcUK but the fanboy arguments get very tiring - we dont owe these companies anything, and Id rather this forum doesnt droop to youtube comment levels. Cant we all just get along and enjoy the pretty pixels?

On topic - any improvement is good, and full mobility support would be a godsend.
