I constantly got this when trying to install the cat drivers.

Magic suggested disabling security software, again sage advice but no different
I have visual studio installed 2005 and express c++ 2008 and it turns out it was due to an incompatibility in the mfc dll's, fix was to download the following:
http://code.msdn.microsoft.com/KB961894/Release/ProjectReleases.aspx?ReleaseId=2067
Well the fun didnt stop there
The above got me further and I could now choose custom or install however beyond that the install froze and I got a further error : could not load file or assembly cli.implementation . . .
If you see this you need to quit out of the installer and delete the contents of C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE
Restarted the installer and it's now looking good . . .
