Im trying to force vsync and triple buffering and AF through the catalyst control centre for cod 6 and nothing is being force. same for other games. i tried to make a profile for cod 6 everytime i try launch the game i get error message saying steam is not on when it is.

Well for one MW2 is a D3D game so triple buffering won't work from CCC as its an openGL setting.
I cant speak for AF, but you could try D3Doverrider, i use it in all games to force triple buffering and v-sync, to my knowledge its never failed.

Well from my own experience forcing AA doesn''t always work in some games anyway.
If i were you id uninstall drivers. do a full clean etc, dont install the windows 7 default driver and reinstall the newest drivers.

If to no avail the engine might just not support it? Can't say myself as i dont own them.

Would third party tools have more luck at forcing vsync? There seems a ridiculous number of games in which I cannot force it on that I ever had with Nvidia. Games look really fugly without vsync in my book.

You can use D3DOverrider which comes bundled in with Rivatuner to force on v-sync, it was also one of the biggest annoyance I had going to 5870 as NVidia make things such as this so simple.

The CCC option only forces v-sync in OpenGL which is pretty lame considering 95% of games are D3D, one of the best things ATI could do is allow it to work for D3D as it's fairly useless as it is.
