i have the msi x3870 x2 OC and when i look in catalyst in the graphics hardware section it says:

why does this only say 512MB when it has 1Gig?

why does this only say 512MB when it has 1Gig?

The 3870X2 has 2 physical GPU's, each can address 512MB (so 1 gig total).

i know it has 2 gpu's and each one has 512

but the way this reads is only one is working/registering, is what catalyst displaying correct?

the cards have 1024mb onboard but to my understanding this is split into 2*512mb - split between the cores, and the content of the 2 blocks is identical, so you only ever have 512mb available for textures etc.
