So I arrived home from work last night to find a nice friendly notice from the police saying they want some money off me and are giving me some points for driving my car a little faster than they deem as "within" the limit lol.

I must be good at this driving thing, I've got 3 points already lol

I don't mean to bitch because yeah I was speeding but 46 in a 40? come on, is that really worth the paperwork?

I spoke to a police women friend of mine and she said I'll probably get points again and the 10% + 2 thing isn't true.

Any stories or advice (other than don't speed) that you want to offer then please do, also free legal advice is appreciated

Doubtful, they'll take one look at my license and because I've got 3 points already they'll bend me over, max they can dish out is 3 more points and £60 though. Annoying part is, friends of mine have been caught doing 80-90 on a motorway and been offered a speed awareness course and no points.

80 - 90 on motorway really isn't an issue, you can't be doing 90 unless It's practically empty, every one else is going your direction and no one can pull out in front of you unless you're damn stupid, 46 in a 40 is totally different and where speed contributes to accidents and injury more

I'd rather crash at 46 than 90, regardless of where I'm driving lol

Aren't you allowed 10% of the speed limit? So 44MPH max before you get clocked?

No, thats a myth. Speedos are always calibrated so if it shows 50 on your speedo, you'll actually be doing 46-48ish, it allows for margin of error on the part of wheel tred, tyre size, road surface etc.... so if you're speeding by 5mph+ you are definitely speeding unless your speedo is broken

No, if your speedo shows 40 it will always be calibrated so that your road speed is 40 or lower.

I don't believe points should be given for 46 in a 40. A fine should be levied only.

My own personal opinion anyway.

I agree completely, points should only be given if you're speeding over 10mph+ e.g. 50 in a 40

Speeding, Pfft. You, Kinda deserved it.

Which is why I'm not using this thread to bitch about how it's unfair and how can I get off it, I said that in the first post but 46 in a 40, come on
