My Dad's PC stopped booting into Windows today and I went over to fix.
The problem was that on startup it would just hang on Windows 7 load screen. First thing I did was go into safe mode via F8. This let me run repair mode but it kept hanging at the repair screen at the stage where it references file "classpnp.sys"
I was close to giving up because there was no way to get into windows to do anything. I tried booting to Win 7 disk but it did same thing too. Then I read it was good idea to fully turn off machine, unplug mains cable and wait 10 mins. I also read it was often fixed by setting SATA mode from AHCI to IDE or vice versa in BIOS and saving and restarting...
It worked! All seems well again now and no hard drive issues detected (SSD).
I am just wondering what could have caused this in first place? Something on way out? Virus? Bad windows update?
