Caved in speaker cones?

My 2 yr old nephew thought it would be fun to push the "buttons" on my hi-fi speakers lol :(

They still produce fine sound but I was wondering what would be the most effective/easiest way to "unpush" them? I was thinking maybe some blu-tac on the end of a pen, but was wondering if any of you lot have done this before, and if so, how? :)

I'd prefer not to completely dismantle the speakers btw, as I'd probably destroy the paper(?) cones in the process.

hmm, is that not risky at all, as in, could they tear the cone? my vacuum is one of those oldschool vax 2000's, they suck pretty hard :o

Hi Heofz,

I'd personally go the 'blu-tac' route like you say. Warm it in your hands for a while and make sure the contact area on the damaged cone is clean and dust free then gently push it onto the section you'd like to pull out. Once stuck in place you can try and tease the distorted cone back out. :)

I'd only try the hoover method if:

A: you want to damage your cone.

B: you have a very cack one with literally no suction. ;) :D

Just be careful and take it slow!

Blutac generally isn't sticky enough for you to push it on and get good adhesion. Gaffer tape is best in my experience, lightly tacked on (don't bodge it on with great gusto else you'll never get it off!) then removed quickly.

As a last resort you can also use a pin to penetrate the cone (carefully obviously!) and then pop the cone back into shape from behind. I've had to do this quite a few times having had teenagers visit the recording studios at work. I'd chop their fingers off if I caught them doing it!

Not wanting to doubt the above poster but I would be very cautious with gaffer tape, personally I would try masking tape first as its a lot less sticky as I rekon I would stick gaffer tape on too hard!!

How about a loo roll cardboard tube and do the sucking manually?

Then post pics for a photoshop contest.

Like I say - don't push it on too hard, especially with paper cones. You risk more damage by pushing the bluetac through the cone trying to get it to stick heh! :) Masking tape works sometimes but I found it wasn't sticky enough. Depends how badly caved in they are I guess. :)
