You probably already know that you can now get the MOT history of any vehicle on the Gov website here, but a company called Cazana pulls this together with other sources of info for a more comprehensive overview.

You can check out a registration number here

Checking my old BMW 330d Sport (that some of you might remember) reveals the following:

- now on it's 14th keeper! I was the 5th, and I sold it on some 6 or 7 years ago.
- it was clocked down from c.180k miles down to c.140k (cant understand why you would bother)

The site also shows when the registered keeper was changed - not sure all the changes are listed though.

You can also see if it's had any other registrations (e.g. a private plate) and when the changes were made.

To get full info you do need to sign in but it's not too much of a hassle.

Hope this is useful :)

Seems pretty awful really.

KE13EES (my old 2013 A4):

Estimated Mileage: 50,354
November MOT "Pass": 69,240 miles

If they can't even get the free info to match up properly on the basic page, why would anyone bother to sign up? To see more inaccurate data?

Why would the two figures match? Estimated means just that, an estimate based on age.

I thought it was pretty good myself, especially liked how it showed the old ad and photos for my previous car. Interesting to see what "fix" the dealer did for the patch of rust on the rear boot door!

Surely the estimated figure should be based off the last known actual figure, plus an extrapolated amount based on historical usage?

There's more to the site than that - the estimated mileage is probably the least useful piece of data on there anyway.

Relax :)

Checking a few old cars I noticed my dad's old C-class must have been clocked at some point - when he got rid of it in 2001 it was 3 years old and it had almost 100,000 miles on the clock yet 4 years later the 2005 MOT records the mileage as 50,000!

Still on the road too, it's now up to "130,000" miles.

Not convinced on the accuracy either, but for a free check it's amusing to find the reg of some of my earlier car purchases to see if they're still actually being run.

The answer is, unsurprisingly mostly no - though the most unreliable car I ever owned (16v corrado) is miraculously still being mot'd whilst one that felt the most like it would run forever (328 coupe) hasn't been mot'd for years. Maybe rusted to death

It doesn't, it estimates my 20 year old MX-5 as having 45284 which is pretty much spot on so it must have got that data from the last MOT.

EDIT - I do like their valuation of it though :D

Is there? It looks like MOT history with a cache & a HPI check if you pay?

I don't really get what it provides,

I've not found another site with previous ads (depending on where they were posted), previous registration numbers, no. of former keepers, etc. If you have one that also free please let me know. :)

I like it very much, it gives some nice info that isn't easy to get in other ways. My go-to site now rather than the two .gov sites.
