Completed my CBT today which is also the first time I have riden ever too.

It was good fun and I enjoyed the day but the first 20 minutes or so weren't great whilst I learnt how to control the bike and ease on and off the throttle etc. My biggest problems seemed to be looking down at the cones as opposed to where I wanted to go and other slow speed maneuvers I struggled with and a very jumpy bike in first gear didn't help matters!

An hour or two in and I felt much more confident, I had kicked over a few cones though I had begun to relax and enjoy myself. We of course had mostly teenagers all with their hands in their pants like they had lice and attitudes very much like mine when I was 16/17. They were on peds as opposed to geared 125's so it was easier and more boring for them.

The road ride I really enjoyed my instructor, who hadn't been training with us during the day, was impressed that I hadn't ridden before. There were a few small errors on one occasion when I was following I let the clutch out at a junction as I was turning and crossed over to the other side of the road but on the whole it was quite a tidy ride and I enjoyed the sense of freedom and being on two wheels :)

DAS to come in the near future!

Edit: Speed bumps hurt your balls and I never realised how poor the majority of the roads are as you don't pay much attention to them when you're in a car!

Tip if you have to do it again in two years: even if you wanna ride a geared bike you can do the CBT on an automatic. Makes it a little easier and takes some of the stress away.

If someone has been riding a geared bike for two years and isn't good enough to pass the CBT then I'd be extremely worried! :)

It's in the pipeline. Theory this Friday with another quick session on a 125 this weekend, a 500 the following weekend and then the final 2 days of the DAS.

So I booked some more training today, my DAS.

I'm awaiting the confirmation and breakdown though. My CBT was the first time I've ridden and as such I have:

This Saturday: 4 hours confidence booster on a 125cc - I need this as there are some slower speed maneuvers I'd like to improve and a bit more time on a bike won't go a miss.

Next Saturday: 4 hours on a 500cc to get to know how a bigger more powerful bike handles and again some more time on a bike is most likely welcomed.

Then the following Saturday & Sunday I have my Mod 1. I guess this is 1 or 2 days training for the Mod 1 and I know that my test will be taken that weekend.

That totaled £495 including my Mod 1 Test fee.

After this I guess I have another 1 or 2 days training for the Mod 2. Which is another £297. It's a little confusing as I assumed 'DAS' was an all inclusive package but it appears not!

Could anybody who has gone the DAS as a new inexperienced rider share their experience and breakdown of their training & costs? if they wouldn't mind :)

Mines £60 for a 2 hour lesson, then test fee's on top of it, had one lesson day before mod 1, 1 before mod 1 itself + use of bike for test, then another lesson a few days before mod 2, 1 before mod 2 + use of bike for test. So £240 for lessons and use of bike for the tests, and £15 for mod 1, and £75 for mod 2. Got my 2nd attempt at mod 2 on Friday, cannot really afford the £135 but I have to, and if I fail I'm going to have to fork out for a new CBT then another £135 for the Mod 2 until I pass it.

Thanks for the reply.

I thought mine seemed a bit steep in comparison to other companies. Other companies around £640 for 4 day DAS training for mod 1 & 2, plus test fees, bike hire etc.

Nearer to £870 but that's including 2 seperate 4 hour sessions (£100 each) to give me a bit more experience. One on a 125cc and another on a 500cc.

Still not as cheap as I hoped! but has to be done if I want to get going on two wheels!

Edit:

Breakdown:

125cc practise - 4 hours - £120
500cc practise - 4 hours - £120
Mod 1 practise - 4 hours - £120
Mod 1 practise & test - 4 hours - £120 + £15.50 test fee.

£495

Mod 2 practise - 4 hours - £120
Mod 2 practise & test - 4 hours - £120 + £75 booking fee.

£315

Grand total £810.

Previous CBT- £130
Theory £31

I've just paid £720 for...

CBT
4x days training
Test fees

Obviously I get to use their bike and equipment.

Sounds like a good deal.

I'm having the extra training as my CBT was the first time I'd ridden. I'm confident I could probably go straight in to practising for the Mod 1 but the extra training would not go a miss as I'd like to be very comfortable so that I have one less thing to be worrying about.

I think I did my CBT, then 3 days training, MOD1, another day training then MOD2 if I remember rightly. I think that worked out well for me as I'd had loads of riding by the time I did MOD1 so it was easy, then I just did a final day of brushing up for my MOD2 which was pretty straightforward too (even though I got the chief examiner following me by car)

I wouldn't bother with the confidence booster on the 125, it's easier to jump straight on the 500 (I found riding the 500 much easier than the 125, much more stable and less wobbly)

I got quoted £400 for as much training as i need + Test fees + REntal of their bike. Not bad but i think its cos im local, quite a small place i live compared to other places.

Theory's done :)

50/50
54/75

Listening to the extremely long HP intro video almost sent me to sleep.

Going back to the test center made me feel 17 again :p

By the prices and location it sounds like you are doing it with the same people I have booked with. Are you doing the training in Hemel?

I have also never ridden a bike before, I have just done my CBT and Theory and have two weekends booked starting on the 18th June.

Let us know how you get on. :)

I am indeed :)

I'm there this Sunday afternoon and also the following weekend for my Mod 1, not sure when my Mod 2 will be, have to complete Mod 1 first!

Had you ridden before? I've been quite impressed so far. The confidence booster on a 125cc was money well spent. Have one this weekend for the 500cc too.

I was surprised as I thought it was run at the primary school location they give but it's actually out of the blokes house, they wheel about 15/20 bikes from the end of the garden through his garage  Instructors are ace though. When did you do your CBT?

Nah, never ridden before at all, did my CBT with them in Aylesbury back on the 30th of April. I then did my theory test on the 14th of may but have only just booked my DAS training.

Really looking forward to it though. It also seems to fit in well, I can do 4 of the days at the weekend and will probably only have to book 2 days off work for the Mod 2.

What bike are you looking at getting after you pass?

Kool, yeah it should be good. I youtube'd whats involved in the Mod1 and it seems quite straight forward.

Do they run the Mod2 at the weekend as I was under the impression that Mod2 tests had to be on a weekday due to the test centre?

It'll be a ZX6R, quite a big powerful one for my first so I'll have to be very careful. Not sure which year either 05/06 or 07/08. Mostly a summer toy and the occasional commute.

What about you?
