Im looking to upgrade my laptop a little insted of buying new would that be a possible upgrade also using a spare 240gb sata 3 ssd

i see i cant upgrade to that does anyone know the best i5 upgrade or is the i5 560m the best one?

Installing isnt a problem im changing the heatsink anyway due to fins breaking and thought spending £60-70 on new cpu heatsink and ram wud be better than a 500 quid upgrade lol

If you plan to upgrade the cpu
Check the laptop motherboard cipset
What cpu it will support
If the laptop heats up with the current cpu get one that has the same or lower TDP
The rest is get the right cpu for you and pourcese it

Tbh, it isn't much of an upgrade anyway since both are Arrandale based dual cores with hyperthreading, with the i5 having a slightly higher base clock and turbo boost. It's not going to make a huge difference by upgrading- not worth the cost and effort imo.

Btw, an i5 760 is a desktop i5 quad core- which is not compatible with your laptop. I wouldn't say it is worth £50 to upgrade, since the 560m only offers a higher clockspeed over the 370m, both are hyperthreaded dual cores. It isn't going to be a significant improvement in performance.

£50 is what its going to cost total to change fro 3GB to 4GB new cooler and cpu the boost and higher clock speed and keyboard

I know its not much but better than a new laptop. So a 560m is the upgrade?

If the same model laptop comes with the 560m aswel as the 370m will the same haetsink fan be ok? or wud it need a better one?

Also why does my cpus show my socket is 989 rpga ?

Both the 560m and 370m have a max TDP of 35W, so they should be fine with the same HSF. Socket 989 rPGA is just the type of socket that the CPU uses to fit into the motherboard (The CPU must be the right type to fit the socket type supported by the motherboard)- ie I can't fit a 3930k (LGA 2011 CPU) in my motherboard, since Z77 only supports LGA 1155 CPUs. Vice versa, my 3570k would not be compatible with an X79 mobo since they only support LGA 2011.

lol Yeah i know what socket is what i dont get is why my cpu-z is showing 989 rPGA when everywhere i read it ssays the socket is 988 rPGA ?

If the cpu keep overheating and lappy turns off do you think it could just be needing new thermal paste adding since its been 2.5 years since i bought it? Or new heatsink?
