Got a 3800+ X2 (E6) today - won't have time to play with it until the weekend - anybody have any idea if it's a good 'un?

Full stepping codes:

CCBWE 0550UPMW

Searching on CCBWE 0550UPMW, I only see listings for Opterons (though they all seem to be decent)

yeah I have an 0550 Opty which is a decent clocker - but not sure about the X2 ( being a 3800 thought, it should be pretty reasonable)

Yep I'm pretty hopeful!

I'll only be overclocking on air, but I got an Arctic Freezer - and I'm glad I did - the stock cooler that came in the pack looks just like the one I got with my old 3000+, no heatpipes in sight.

I'd be satisfied with 2.4 (same as I'm getting with the 3000+), 2.5 would make me happy, and anything over, well :D

I'll post up my results.

if you can overclock they are pretty much guaranteed to run at 2.4ghz on not to many volts, so with that stepping, going on the optys with the same id say you would be looking at 2.7 maybe on 1.55v or so.

If it's a CCBWE which is the same stepping as the Opterons then it's a Toledo core with half the cache disabled.

All the Toledos seem to clock really well, mostly to about 2.6GHz, but some of the Opteron 170s are going to 2.7 or even 2.8 on air.

I think you've probably got a good chip there matey.

I've clocked mine to 2.8ghz on air with only 1.4V...

Would be interesting to see what this could do on water. ;) Maybe time for a case mod...

what temps you got with the opty? Water really only helps an overclock if temps are the limiting factor. I doubt they will be that high at such low voltage.

Well for anyone who's interested, it's looking like I'm going to settle at 2.4, with 1.425 vcore.

I did boot into XP at 2560, but only with 1.525 vcore, and core 1 barfed the moment it saw Prime 95.

I could go for a higher compromise than 2.4, but this avoids stressing my system (my cpu temps looked fine but my PWM temps were climbing!) Plus, I don't want to be too near the edge as this computer is used for software development.

OK, I'm a wuss!

I am really impressed with the Artic Freezer though. A bit fiddly to fit, but it's very quiet and really does its job well.
