I am just after some advice i have a s2 pro SLR and i recently bought a 28-300 zoom lens as I was sick of cleaning the CCD as it seemed to get dirty a lot and i put this down to changing lens. i cleaned my lens with a recommended cleaning kit and took some photos to show it was clean and then attached the new lens. i used the camera to take some childrens potrait photos at a local work event and with the children on a white background no dust marks could be seen, and used the camera a few days later, which again no marks could be seen.

on sunday i took the camera along to the sunderland airshow and when i looked at the photos there is loads of dust spots and some small squiggles ruining the photos. the lens has not been off since i cleaned the CCD to perfect.

what can i do to stop this as its ruining photos badly? could it be the camera or the lens still allowing dust in somehow? i have tried to do research on the net and found nothing!

i use the eclipse cleaning set from camera clean which works but then the muck appears back - i spent last night in tears when i air show photos were ruined.

i have been through most of the other forums and nothing that directly helps me as to whether this should happen after every other trip out when the lens doesnt change! if ive missed something please let me know

im desperate!!

Its something your gonna have to put up with but rather than making sure your actually CCD is clean you need to make sure the entire chamber is too or its gonna find its way back on there.

I really doubt your images are ruined? Can you post your fave one thats ruined and we can see where its affected. It shouldn't be much more than a clone/heal job?

Unfortunately its one of the things your going to have to live with using SLRs. Changing lenses(Although you havent been) introduces dust, but very fine dust can actually work its way through seals in the camera body. As Fstop has mentioned, why don't you post one you feel have been ruined and we can advise you as to how to best fix it. Dustspots are very easy to clone out and some programs even allow you to map out known spots so they are fixed everytime.

Edit; And if its any consolidation, im sure your sensor is nowhere near as bad as mine was. :p

If you're getting dust without changing lenses, could be down to your choice in lens. Where a lens extends in length, it will actually suck air (and dust) into to lens, and when you retract the lens, will blow air out again, possibly pushing the dust onto your sensor. The Bigma is notorious for this as it acts as a type of bellows on the front of your camera.

Your options are:
- Buy a camera body with auto sensor cleaning (NOT cheap), e.g. Sony alpha and Canon 400D.
- Replace your lens with something of fixed physical length (some zooms are of fixed length, e.g. Canon 70-200).
- Buy a rocket blower (everyone should have one, they are dirt cheap and effective). If that doesn't clear everything, then I found a lenspen to be effective and is also very cheap.

hey thanks for the advice - my account wont let me attach photos yet - something i think to do with not posting enough yet - - have the blower which is ok but i find of very limited use - i also have just acquired and cleaner kit from my local camera shop which includes more sensor cleaner and swabs (which i already have), usb hoover and a magnify that you clip over where the lens goes - means i can see my CCD better for cleaning as can see immediately if i have got all the marks.

i think my prob is the residual dust that remains in the camera plus as pointed out the fact i have a large zoom lens.

good to know its not just me! must get into the practice of regular cleaning! and currently am learning to do some editing of my airshow photos - trying to get dust marks outta a rainbow!
