Earlier this week I finally completed my Cisco CCIP, a qualification that I have been persuing for the past 12months or so. I got acknowledgement from Cisco today :)

One of my jobs this week is to pack away the 13U study lab that I have built over the past few years until I embark on CCIE next year. Before I dismantle it, I thought I might take a picture, give you guys an idea of what resources I’ve been using to pass, thought it might interest one or two of you;

Currently it is set up to model an MPLS\VPN service provider (2PEs, 1P), two overlapping VPNs made up of 5 enterprise sites each running a different PE-CE protocol (static, RIPv2, EIGRP, OSPF and BGPv4) which is redistributed into the MP-BGP core both ways. Internet access is provided to both VPNs using different techniques. There is a totally separate management network and even out-of-band access to all devices via the 32-port async module.

Lab consists of;
1X Cisco 2501
1X Cisco 2503
1X Cisco 2520

1X Cisco 2610
1X Cisco 2621
1X Cisco 2621XM

3X Cisco 3640

1X Cisco 2950

4X Cisco WIC-2T
3X Cisco WIC-1T
1X Cisco WIC-1B-S/T

1X Cisco NM-4E
1X Cisco NM-32A
1X Cisco NM-1E2W
2X Cisco NM-2FE2W

Cables, fiber, tranceivers etc. All routers are ‘fully-loaded’.

Much of this kit is End-of-Life now, but when new this lab would have had a retail value of circa 40K. Yoinks!

Skidd.

Thanks dude. Well to recert CCIP I need to take a CCIE within the Service Provider track, am in two minds at the moment SP Voice, or SP Metro Ethernet. I work in the service provider space so it's the most appropriate track anyways.

After my QoS experience in CCIP I'm keen to learn more about voice - but tbh - I already know 50% of what is on the Metro E track so I might as well do that. Aiming for wallet development now, not professional development ;) so whatever gets me there most easily...
