Having no Cisco experience and little Citrix, how difficult would it be to pass a CCNA exam after a 5 day course?

I imagine a 5 day course is pretty intense. I dont want to waste 5 days, my time, effort and around £500

Thanks

Pretty difficult, but achievable. I'd do the 5 day course, get the Cisco books and nuggets and study for up to 3 weeks afterwards depending on your aptitude and then sit the exam.

To be honest, you could do it without a course, just tip up and do the exam after studying the books.

Ive done quite a few 5 day courses with work and always found it just far too much. Ive got a CCNA but it took me months of study to pass (whilst working).
As said, its easily possible to self study the CCNA and save yourself the £500.

As stated, go for the self study approach. a lot cheaper and if you run in to any trouble or have questions, just post it up here :)

Get the nuggets, Jeremy Cioara is an absolute legend.

I passed mine in around 3 weeks doing college work as well

I agree, he makes things clear and easy to understand. :D

Id also recommend getting a copy of Cisco Packet Tracer or some Cisco hardware (budget depending) to use to get used to IOS.

You can certainly pass after the 5 day course but I would wonder how much of the course would actually stick with you as they will bombard you with all the information. I can see it being too much to take in and won't "stay" with you long term

What books did you read from? I need to get myself the theory books, as all I have is CCNA Exam Cram practise questions (Third addition) - Jerermy Cioara with cd

I have packet tracer/CBT Nuggets Videos/Lab Guides ready, but I need the main books

I have all the Cisco Press books for the CCNA and also Sybex CCNA. I normally find the Sybex books better then official press releases.

I am pretty fortunate though, as I get a lot of hands on experiences on Cisco kit working for a ISP.

Also the best way of preparing for the exam is to actually go ahead and book the exam, as this will give you a good indication of the area's you need to concentrate you studying on. However, you also need to think about what path you are going to go down in terms of exams, whether its be ICDN1 / ICDN2 or CCNA exam. As both of this require very good time management, more so with the CCNA exam.

Cool ta, anyone know the cheapest online self study course going at the mo?

Can anyone answer my above Q? generally I am after an online course which gives you access for a period of time to learn and sit the exam, with good online resources such as module tutorials, online SIM's, Video's etc?

Dont think you can get an online course that lets you see the exam as you have to go through an official testing centre via prometric or pearsonvue.

I keep getting emails from Preplogic (now LearnSmart) that do CCNA training and online resources.

funny thing is most of the big businesses i walk into today dont even use cisco hardware. lol

You will find them in a lot of data centres though ;)

I'm umming and arring on if I should purely use books, web and labs or if I should pay for 12 months access to one of these sites which guide you through to completion
