I'm looking to build a CCTV SERVER..

Whats the best hardware to use?

I would obviously like this to be as small as possible

(I would like to link around 5 webcams to this to monitor outside my house and inside)

Any Ideas?

Cheapest possible solution please...

microserver is a good shout, but id check just how much CPU power is needed to process the incoming video streams from 4 video cameras and plonk them on disk. If it does any CPU transcoding it might not work, as the microserver has a pathetic CPU.

I use an old desktop with XP on, its a P4 2.4Ghz, 2Gb Ram but the capture card does hardware encoding and works fine and has done for a year or 2

I use an amd fusion board (msi) that's my CCTV , file server etc all in one, works fine, use ispy and ip camaras , draws 41watts load with 3 hard drives, so less if u have one WD green drive?

2nd hand server..hp or dell...Dual xeon...should have the poke etc, we use R510 for cctv (running VM machine managing 50+ cameras)

I have zoneminder running on a microserver with one camera no issues, also have mobile phone connected to txt alerts.

looking at ispy at the moment.

The only issue is the quality of the images in low light
