I've just came to install a game today, and during the installation I noticed it was going stupidly slow... so I tried to copy some files over from the CD to my hard drive, and I was getting speeds of 1.90MB/s and constantly dropping.

I've tried 6 CD's all with the same effect. There's no loud CD spinning noise coming from the drive... it's silent. It used to spinn crazy and was quite loud.

I've had thr drive for 2 years and not had a problem with it, any suggestions?

Cheers

Well the thing is, I uninstalled World of Warcraft cause the files got a bit corrupt. And now I can't install it again, I've been off the game for like.... a whole hour now. I'm having withdrawal!!!

Anyway, on a more serious note. It seems my drive speed is stuck on x8

I've tried changing it through the nero tools, but it keeps reseting to x8 read.

Have you checked that it's not stuck in PIO mode?
Reading several damaged CDs can cause the OS to set it to PIO mode thinking the drive itself is faulty.
There's a fix to get it back to DMA mode involving a registry hack and reboot.

I look into that Tomsk, if that fails I think I'll just buy a new one... they are cheap.

My mouse also broke yesterday, bah... everything is starting to break!
