CD Drive Problem

Have 2 CD Drives installed, one has jus died so put in a new one! But when i put the new one in windows xp doesnt reconise any of them. But when i put the new one in on its own windows finds it alrite! Wat is the problem???

Both are connected by IDE

What are the master/slave positions of the two drives when they are both in? If one is faulty is could be causing an entire IDE problem that the other can't bypass.

Both connections on the IDE cable are black. Shld there not be a black and grey connector for master and slave?

Set the jumpers so that one is master the other slave (or put both on cable select.

no jumpers are set!! how do i put them on cable select??

The jumpers are the little plastic bits covering 2 pins. Carefully pull them out and place them on the relevant pins (see above diagram link).

There will be a sticker on top of the drives which tells you where to put the jumpers!

ok found the jumper pins and put both cd drives to cable select and they still are reconised!!

Put the one at the end of the cable as master the other slave.

Do you have one or two ide conenctors on your motherboard?
