Ok, this is a little strange, just been updating my system, got as far as installing service pack 1, then all the gigabyte ds3 drivers from the disc I got with it, now any cd I stick in isnt recognized, if I go into my computer, the drive itself isnt even there..

Im updated to the F9 bios but is there something else that could be causing this?

desperate to solve this problem?

:confused:

I have tried those solutions there, but the device doesnt even appear under the control panel, so I cant reinstall the device driver!!

this is doing my head in..

:mad:

Is it listed under device manager? If so, you can uninstall it from there and reboot the system and windows should automatically install it. If not, you could try disabling and re-enabling in the BIOS. I have a feeling though that your SP1 install has messed up the driver base and the driver for generic CD-ROM drives has dissappeared :(

TBH though, I'm more concerned about why you are installing SP1 and not SP2... :p

If your CD drive appears with a ! next to it, or a ? next to it in other devices, try this:

go to device manager, click uninstall on the cd drives

Click Start, Run, and type the following into the Open field: regedit
#
Click OK. The registry editor appears.
#
In Windows XP, click File, Export, type a filename that is easy for you to remember, and click Save.
In Windows 2000, click Registry, Export Registry File, type a filename that's easy for you to remember, and click Save.
A copy of the registry has saved for back-up purposes.

Click the plus sign ( +) next to the following items in the list:

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet (or the current control set with lowest number if that is all that is listed)
* Control
* Class
