Ive just noticed that i cannot open blank CD-R's on my disk drives. I recentally got the DS3 motherboard. I can open CD that i have already put files onto (before i got the DS3) but cannot open clean new CD's on either drive (have a DVD and a CD-RW drive. Both drive were able to open blank CDs and copy files to them before the upgrade.

Any idea what could be wrong here?
Ive check the CD-Rs are good with my other computer.

ICH8 does not support any IDE thus DS3's IDE channels are provided through gigabyte's own chipset and that could be the problem. Did you install the latest gigabyte's chipset driver??

I have F7. I think that is the latest.

Also when i open a CD-R with files already on it, it shows the disk as full and unable to write anything else to the CD-R (even though the CD is nowhere near full).

Is there a lead i can get that will let me put at least one of the CD drives into a SATA (yellow or purple?) port? Im guessing this should cure the problem.

There are Sata - IDE converter you can get to use IDE devices on Sata port but for the price I'd probably just get a SATA DVD writer for £20. Have you always used windows' built in burnnig utility?? Because it may be easier to try a professional burning software like NERO which works better and may solve your problem.
