CD/DVD LABELLING SYSTEM

Lightscribe rules. Even if it is colourless, the quality is superb and it really makes the media stand out. No ink to worry about, no centering of lables. Just...

My Samsung LightScribe 22x DVD±RW Burner has been doing a fantastic job and was a real bargain at $25 (about £15), but you'll need backing software (Nero?) as well, and that costs a few pennies. Make sure whatever you get comes bundled with the right software.

Any reputable media (Verbatim, Memorex, etc.) should work equally well, so just go for price comparision just as you would with regular DVDs. Keep in mind, they don't have dual-layer with LightScribe... yet.

Lightscribe is great, they look very professional and are easy to produce, plus no cost bar the discs and just a drive, which are super cheap anyway.

Only problem is lightscribe discs are harder to come by and cost a little more. Does anyone know where you can get the coloured lightscribe discs from?

I haven't seen the coloured ones yet. Just learned they were out, actually. They look interesting.

Also just read an article about pulling multiple passes on the image burn to get more contrast. Has anyone tried this? I wouldn't want it to ruin the label or affect the data layer. I always burn mine at highest quality and they look pretty good.

I've done that once to gain more contrast, worked fine as the part in the centre of the disc is to align it precisely for recording. I have found they do sometimes suffer from poor contrast, which does make them look bland in comparison to your preview.

There is also an application to increase the contrast from the lightscribe site, I recommend using that too. Almost every time it should be ok though.
