I'm looking to make CD labels for CD's/DVD's that I own - Family photo's/movies etc and wanted to know if anyone knew of a good printer with this function in?

Thanks :)

Avoid lightscribe... the special lightscribe DVD media to use is hard to get hold of.... fades like a bugger in sunlight... overall waste of space :)

I got one to do just what you describe. Takes a few minutes to burn the disc and 4 - 5 times longer to burn the label on... that you then have to keep in a dark, cool place !!!

Yep, got a lightscribe blu ray/dvd combo drive here, only used the lightscribe function a few times but the image is pretty good.

Can I or do they do a printer or cd labelling kit standalone device or do I need to purchase a printer with CD/DVD printer capabilities too?

Canon Pixma IP4700, can be got for around £70...

The Canon printers are better at doing the DVD/CD labelling than the Epsons...

I started printing on cdr/dvdr back in 2000 with converted canon/epson printers

Then i used a epson R200 for years but switched to a canon ip4000 in 2005. For 4 years straight i used more canon's...ip4200/ip4300/ip4500/ip4600/ip4700

But at the end of 2009 i went back to Epson and can say the epson p50 produces the best printout on cdr/dvdr discs. But! it takes about 2+ minutes to print a disc. While the canon ip4700 prints one in about half the time

So for the best quality go for the P50 but for speed and still excellent quality go for the ip4700

Also of course certain brands of printable discs print better than others

I would say the top 3 best matt printable discs are

Imation aquaguard (waterproof)
Falcon Pro
Ritek

Also sony dac pro are good

Best glossy

Verbatim waterproof glossy
TY watershield glossy
Mediarange aquashield again waterproof

Using the Canon ip4300 just over 2yrs old, print's as good as new with compatibles from day 1. Believe you me l've done some printing with it, a set of compatibles about £5 about £50 for Canon's do the math.

Compatibles for the ip4700 about the same price, use a good brand and stick to it, l used the same brand and l hardly ever clean the head,s > Realjet[already chipped so you just swap them out when adviced by printer].;)

I use the Canon ip5200 Printer I write my discs then print on them, I have two off them one with original cartridges "for Photos" and the Other with Copy's for anything else Had the First one for years now :-) bought the second off e bay very cheap :-).

PSto op can u copy the disc/DVD to a printable one then off course print the image direct to that Much better results you should have.

I went for an IP4850 in the end and managed to find a full set of 5 inks for £8.99. I will update when I have it all set up :)
