Hi all,

Got some problems with a RedHat machine. I can't mount the cdrom as any user other than root. I would have thought there were some restrictions in the /etc/fstab but there don't seem to be, its identical to that of many other machines where things work fine;

/dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,users,exec,ro 0 0

I would have thought that would be? it seems as though the actual "mount" command won't run as root;

mount: only root can do that

Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I've tried that, unfortunately it didn't change anything.

One thing I've noticed now though, is that it is actually mounting the CD, but to /misc/cdrom in fstab it should be mounting it to /mnt/cdrom :confused:

You could maybe change the ownership of the file using 'chown'.

The cdrom line in my fstab looks like:

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,user,ro 0 0

I'm sure using 'user' lets a normal user mount the drive.

Hope that helps :)
