I will be getting a MK 3 Fiesta on the saturday, and will be taking out the current DVD Player system due to the theft & security risk as it has no removeable fascia.

What I need to know is whats the best sounding system at the moment? I have a current budget of £200 for this, a bit less if possible but I do like quality in my car. The car will come equipped with an Amp & Sub so that area is covered already.

I really doubt the head unit will make any appreciable difference to SQ so long as it isn't an Aiwa or something :p The road noise in a mk3 Fiesta will be so much you'll hardly hear the thing anyway.

It won't, it's going in a Fiesta, the road noise will cancel a lot of the bass out as the front speakers are very low. So unless you can hear with your feet, you'll need something to compensate and pump bass into the cabin :)

Don't think of it as removing bass, more removing the excess single frequency reflex sound created by a sub.

The use of a decent amp and speakers will create more than enough bass.

I know from my clio that it creates naff all, tickles my ankles a little yeah, but without my sub in the boot the music sounds lacking

It is only when i really really turn it up that the sub only slightly sounds over powering to the front speakers, at which point you wouldnt want it at that loud a volume for a long time anyway

As i said in the other thread mate you can't go far wrong with pioneer or alpine head units. Id be looking at their range and seeing what I could afford. :)

I saw that there was a reasonably prices Sony unit in Halfords for around £160, would prefer buying from there (limited) range, as they do the stereo fitting for free, and as far as I know they only fit the units if you buy the stereo from there store, as opposed to buy someplace else and then go there and ask them to fit it

Fitting a head unit is the simplest of jobs. Halfords range is pretty damn poor.

I bought an Alpine CD101-RM with iPod cable for £125 and I can tell you now it'll be infinitely better than the Sony unit. If you weren't sure how to fit it, a local car audio place would do it for £20 easily. Why restrict your choice for the sake of letting some monkey fit it for you?

Fitting a headunit is a case of sliding the old one out, unplugging it, plugging the new one in, and sliding it into place.

Simples.

Why limit yourself to the gash that halfords sell overpriced, just to get "free" fitting.

Whats wrong with the Sony ones? I thought that they would be the best for sound quality, just like they are with there portable mp3 players?

I never realised they they was considerably bad in terms of car CD players. I must admit that I did quite like Pioneer CD Players, do they still give you good quality sound?

Can you honestly say you can hear a difference between Sony HUs and Alpine HUs in a car environment??? The acoustics in a car are pretty terrible, especially in something like an old Fiesta.

I can hear the difference between the Kenwood i had before and the Pioneer i have got now, it quite a big difference :p
