CD Player oddness...

My radio sounds fine, but for some reason the audio from my CD player has started playing up - when I play a CD it sounds like there's some interference from the EPC or something, also, audio occasionally cuts out on the right side.

Is this a common thing as it's quite a tight fit at the back of the cd unit if I remember and I'm thinking it might just be a bad connection somewhere... this is the standard one you get in the Mk4 Golf.

I'm tempted to just get rid of it and put a better stereo in but not sure if it's worth the money/grief? If I did this, can I get a blanking plate or something to cover the slot where the single CD player normally is?

Cheers chaps

Could be a door connection issue, because the bus and K wire also connect to the stock HU you can run VAG-Com and log things such as speaker faults, can't remember if its under the audio / entertainment tabs or under the Centrol Control guff.

Could well be a earthing issue.

Thanks, at first I was going to look at pulling the door panel off or something to check connections, but as I said, it only happens with the CD player selected, not with the radio  A dodgy Earth would make sense though.

I've read posts on forums about people having all sorts of problems with getting new stereo systems working in the VWs due to some odd wiring arrangements. Is it worth just spending say £150 getting a new stereo and getting any issues sorted at the same time, as I'd really like to hook the iPod up (or use a memory stick). I'm not that bothered about spending some dough, as I can obviously take the stereo with me when I change cars.

Not sure where to go really - not sure if I'd trust Halfords digging around with my wiring etc :p

Its a really simple change, all you need to watch for is don't send +12v down the K wire or you could blow something up.

You need to buy the VW ISO block, check the K wiring connections on the block, if you buy a good one like i did from Autoleads they have already done this for you.

Its just a case of taking the old HU out, if you have a CD changed in the boot you can junk this also, wire in new ISO block, cage, click in HU.

Easy as :)
