I have maybe 150-200 CD's, besides a few with sentimental value that I'll keep, I'd like to get shot of the rest.

Charity shops are one option, not planning on hosting a car-boot anytime soon.

Has anyone here used sites like musicmagpie or similar to cash in on old media?

Thanks,

BennyC

I have used music magpie a few times to offload collections of physical media. Easy process and they pay for the postage, all you have to do is scan it all in using your phone against the barcodes and then box it up/send it at their expense.

You may not get the best price for each disc but in bulk as a service I can’t fault it.

Yeah music magpie if you're just going to bin them or give away. Wont get much at all but its easy and if you're not too bothered makes back a little for the effort.

Check the bay for hidden value to filter out any gems, then proceed to joblot it. If you have bookface, a pic or a few of the lot can help to shift the lot without hassle to friends. One thing i do is keep packaging from purchases for when i need to sell stuff, just bang it in the loft if possible. Sadly you just missed the max £1 selling fee on the bay a few weeks ago, those are handy.

Ahhh, I ditched all my CDs a while back and never thought about using a service like that I just gave them to the charity shop, that's definitely an error on my part ... though I wonder if I'd even have gotten much (especially compared to how much I'd have sunk into them over the years).

I just dumped all my CD's/DVDs/Blu-rays/PC games/Console games etc in the rubbish somewhere between 400 to 600 most likely even more then that amount last year
I broke them all first before dumping them..

Was doing a huge loft / house / shed clear out :)

Why break them?

Thanks, it seems MusicMagpie are quite selective with which CD's they're happy to take currently, 10% hit rate currently, offering between 10-20p a disc.

I don't think it's a reflection of my taste in music :p one which is obviously valuable was offered 95p

They will give £7 for my old Xbox360 mind... edit: tfw broken and worth 60p lulz

If the CD hit doesn't pick up then I'll just keep them to reminisce on!

Could not give mine away 30 boxsets and 100+ movies a mixture of blueray and dvd. Tried selling online but only worth pennies, they all ended up in land fill.

I found music magpie etc weren't interested in the DVDs that I had. I had 25 I definitely wanted to get rid of so stuck them on some Facebook selling pages at £1 each or £20 for the lot. Was only on there maybe a week before someone came and bought them :)

When I finally got around to digitising all my stuff, I just put them in an old biscuit tin on the front wall with a note saying “Free”
Quite a few went in dribs and drabs, and then one guy came along, did a double take, picked one out, then another, then another, flicked through the rest, and took the whole box. Very low hassle result for me. Must have been a fan of 80’s pop/synth. Cba’d to sell them and make pennies

If you're thinking of sending them to charity then be wary that they will mostly likely end up in the bin unless it's something valuable that sells for more than a few quid. The distribution centre in my area has been disposing of disc based media en mass for quite sometime including stuff like PS1 games and blu-rays.

Oh, and if you have any music by Andre Rieu then bin it now even if it's sealed, they won't want it. :p

This was back in 2012, but I made about £110 on Music Magpie from around 200 CDs. Weirdly enough, the Now albums that I paid at least £10 for only went for 30p, and yet the obscure ones from the charity shops for a quid went for like £3.20. Not sure if the rates will be as good in 2020 now that everyone and their dog are on Spotify.

For those who wish to break their CDs - pop them in the microwave :D

Surely there’s some sort of enthusiast forum for music CD swaps or clear outs? I’ve not had my CD player plugged in for a while, but I’m sure as hell not offloading my CDs! One day I’ll have a music room, one day...

EDIT - surely now much be peak time for grabbing a boat load of cheap/free CDs before they start to end up in landfill and get rare and expensive?
