CD Rom drivers?

Howzit Guys,

I've got a pc here from a friend who says his CD rom isn't working. A quick look under device manager shows there are no drivers for it...

Now this is a basic gerneric CD rom, no name ect. He is running Windows XP Professional. Doesn't even have service pack one on it.

I would load the service pack..but no cd drive...?

Any ideas guys?
