Try checking that the IDE cables and Molexes are all plugged in securely.

I get this all the time when I take my PC apart.

HTH
Seems unlikely that would be the cause if the drives work under windows

All I can think is that your master/slave jumper settings might not be set up correctly, but then that would usually mean they don't show up in windows

How have you managed to install windows if the optical drives do not appear in BIOS?

Just don,t know mate but the system all works fine

just dont show the CD rom drives in the BIOS, i have a DVD one set as master and a slave samsung DVD rom drive

If they work in Windows then who cares :p Very odd though, are all the IDE Master/Slave entries just completely blank then?

right ok the optical drives which dont show in the bios but show in windows after testing are reading data very slowly and music off a cd is choppy. why is it doing this ?? please help ?

this may sound dumb but have you tried setting both to CS instead of Master and Slave I had a board once that refused to work unless drives were set to CS

sorry mate just done this and its still not there

anything else

I take it you have already tried it with just 1 drive attached to see what happens.

Disconnect your SATA HD's as well

If you see it great then start adding devices until they vanish.

Comps are such a pain in the rear ;)
