CD Rom wont work

Managed to get Panther installed on the old Ibook, using the proper Ibook install disks, but have run into another problem.
I upgraded to 10.3.9 and now the drive will not read any disks at all. it used to before otherwise I wouldn't of been able to install OS.
Is there a way to solve this.

Which model of iBook is it?

Sounds like it could do with either a clean, or a PMU reset.

Its a G4 12" 1.2ghz 512mb
