CDDB ? What is it

Just noticed in My documents -----> My music i have a folder called CDDB with about 927kb of files in it, what is it, do i need it, should i delete it.

I realise its soemthing to do with naming your cd's and thumbnails for your music albums ? so if i delete it, are they then all gone as well ?

CDDB is normally used by media players to access track information (artist name, title etc) when you play a cd. Shouldn't do any harm in leaving it there.
