Just made an order and its been put on hold, they want me to scan my driving license showing name and address? Is this correct, seems suspicious.

They did this to me after taking the money, I put in a paypal claim explaining they want my personal details scanned for a computer game and 2 hours later I got my key. I would never ever send those details to any game site, they might well be legit but that info is NOT needed to buy a cdkey imo. I always register with fake names/address anyway as people who sell cdkeys do not need to know where I live or who I am, I also always only pay with paypal.

That seems very dodgy indeed!

Why on earth would they need those details, as Witcher1979 says, it's a key site so no physical disk. Why does your address matter?

I thought the merry-go-round of keys from different regions would be how sites like this get such good discounts. Therefore if you had to declare your location for licencing purposes they'd be out of business pretty quick.

Yeah they seem to just ask random people for these details, was a thread awhile back. Makes you think what they actually do with the scans from people who do actually send them in.

It does say you can cover everything up, they just need to see the Name and Address, with a bit of paper with CDkeys written on it.

I am curious if the people being asked for ID are using PayPal accounts without confirming their paypal address and cdkeys.com are trying to avoid being scammed with stolen PayPal accounts?

My paypal is confirmed. I have sent them a message on facebook asking why they need the information and that im not comfortable providing it.

They did this to me a year ago, I kicked up a fuss and refused, 3 hours later they sent me my key and I was playing.

Does seem like a random check/flag, but I don't fancy sending them such details.

ay it's more random anti-fraud on their part. I imagine it's not that uncommon for people to buy keys using someone elses paypal and such. once the legit owner spots the fraudulent payment they'll want their money back, by which time the key has already been used so the cdkeys website would be down and out of pocket.

as said above, if just need name an address with a cdkeys "timestamp" then there's no harm in that... details they have already but confirming you are who you say you are.
