Hi, I have the processor detailed above, with a Gigabyte GA 965P-S3 Motherboard, and 1GB of DDR2 PC6400 RAM (1x1GB stick)

I have the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro, and was wondering what kind of speed can I expect, and how can I overclock this CPU to it's max (volages, settings etc)

Any help would be great.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that the 360 is a 65nm Ceder Mill 512kb L2 chip. In which case, with sufficient voltage you could expect a minimum of around 4.2GHz and as high as 5.0GHz when pushing ~1.6V through it.

Yea, it is a Cedar Mill with 512k cache. Is this a good chip, for performance and overclocking? All my friends are on Core 2 Duo CPUs (E6300s and 6600s), I know I'll never compare with this but I'd like to get close lol!

I was a bit worried about the core voltage, I have it at 1.45 atm. Should I push the chipset and other voltages up? there are quite a few voltages I can change ;)

Thanks!

Hi,

Keep motherboard's voltages as is unless you run into stability issues. You probably won't since the CPU runs at such a low FSB. Providing temperatures are below 70*c, I wouldn't be too afraid to put as much as 1.55-1.6V through it. Probably nearer 1.55V max for 24/7 usage. If you don't plan on keeping it for more than a year, go higher.

Ceder Mill cores are 65nm and run cooler than their Prescott Cores Counterparts. They clock very well as a result. They aren't that awful since they have 512kb L2 Cache and you would certainly need to push it to silly speeds to match a Core 2 Duo in non multicore apps (impossible to match in multicore supported apps). That being said, one of these Ceder Mills at 4.5GHz+ would not be a slouch :D

I don't plan on keeping it for more than a few months tbh, I won't be keeping it on 24/7, will be mainly used for a bit of light gaming an Word, MSN etc.

It's more of an experiment really :p I'm not particularly bothered if I do only get a few months, I only paid £40 for it so it's not a big investment, I'm just very interested to see how far this baby can go.

They seem to be hitting 5.5+ on some boards, someone with my board got to 5.45 but I suppose it's all luck really. I have a Freezer 7 Pro so temps aren't really going to be an issue, and it's in a CoolerMaster Elite 330 case with 2x 120mm fans (and the whole front of the case is mesh - great temps!)

I'll let you know how I get on, I'm in work ATM and will be home at one ish, and will be tweaking :D

Righteo, well good luck. Remember to stick your memory on a lower ratio if RAM starts being pushed past it's stock speed.
